Double Decade Dearth - my steady return to Epic

After over a year of re-learning and resurrecting a Epic 40k force of enough tiny dudes to fight battles against my mates, I finally got forces, venue & victim to play against.

We played at the TCOW club in West Auckland, which had 9 other systems running at the same meeting, across all scales & settings.

This is a quick battle report for a 1000pt NetEpic v6 game of the crafty Eldar versus the grumpy Space Marines, supported by Ad Mech Titanicus forces.

Eldar forces, lead by noble and cunning Gavin:
Company - Defender Warhost with 3 detachments of 3 Falcons & 6 Guardians each.
Special - Farseer with Falcon

The formations had good manoeuvre & firepower in the Falcons and well at least there were a bunch of Guardians to look cool with. Farseer was for HQ and to see what she could do.

Space Marines, lead by garrulous and dirty fighting Damian:
Company - Tactical Company with HQ and 3 detachments of 3 Rhinos & 6 Tactical Marines each.
Special - Warhound Titan from Adeptus Mechanicus, armed with Turbo Laser Destructor & Plasma Blastgun.

Tough SMs that can advance quickly and use cover to get to grips with the tricksy Eldar. Heavy support from the Warhound made them a very dangerous force.

We fought on a 4'x4' section of the tables, giving a lot of spare space for our stuff & rulebooks.
Most of the time was taken up working out what to do and how to do it, which was good fun.

Turns 1 & 2: Sparring and Roughhousing.

Eldar blow up a bunch of Rhinos and pester the Warhound, which advances to cover in a wrecked building.

Damian's Warhound is expertly painted by Daniel Linder.

We found flying bases look like good downed shield markers.

SMs & Eldar advancing through cover, Tac Co is suffering a lot of long range fire. The Warhound has tasted it's first kill of 2 Falcons in the central Defender detachment.

Turns 3 & 4: Rapid application of education from Adeptus Mech to ancient spacefaring pointy eared gits.

Damian's Titan rocks around being awesome, getting hit all over but either shrugging it off or recovering. It took a damned Reactor hit from a Falcon shot in the bum, shut down, weathered all the rest of my turn's fire, repaired the damage. Then suffered nothing serious in the next turn of my fire from half a dozen Falcons & attempts to pop the squishy crew heads with the Farseer. It turned around and applied plasma death to the issue of the Farseer.

We ended the battle there as we had run out of time. Very much fun, great to get back into the game and from here we will keep on building up forces and terrain for more Epic or EA games.

6mm Moderns - Meet you in Leningrad

Getting more 6mm fun in with Scott and Aaron, we plotted during the week for a Sunday game at Scotts newly done place.

Game narrative: ze Germans we super keen on counterattacks as soon as the balloon went up and expected to be somewhere south of Leningrad by wk 2-3…..

Soviet front forces have dispersed the tripline of US forces and breached the main line of defence.
A Soviet Operational Maneuver Group (OMG!) has passed through the still sizzling 1st echelon forces and pushed forward toward it’s goals.
Due to heavy NATO rear area interdiction and targeting of bridging assets the OMG has been forced to stop for specialist reinforcement & resupply earlier than expected.
The West Germans had been chomping at the bit and leapt at the opportunity to unleash their Panzers.

The year was 1979, a good year for new beginnings on the other side of the world. But in West Germany, some tourist had kicked Brezhnev's dog and he demanded to seek an apology.
Attacker is elements of a West German Panzer Battalion & Aufklarungs Battalion rated GOOD worth 6000pts attacking elements of a Soviet Tank Division rated FAIR worth 4000pts. Soviets had Recon elements rated as Average.
Mission is FFoT3's Counterattack, Attacker moves on to try and kill Defender who starts in 1st third of the board, playing long table edges. VP for formation kills, bolded in army lists.
Soviet forces forming up. Ended up borring T-72A's as stand-ins for T-64A's.
Soviet forces:
Soviet Tank Division 1979 - rated Fair (cheap, inaccurate, 4" coherency, 6 for QCs)
Tank Regiment with:
HQ assets - Recon 1 x PT-76B, 1 x BRDM2
AA - 1 x SA-8, 1 x ZSU-23-4
Tank Battalion with 6 x T-64A

SPAT - 2 x BRDM-2/AT-3C
BTR M-R Battalion with 6 Cat1 Inf, 3 Cat1 Inf/ATGM, 1 107mm RRifle riding in 10 BTR-70's
BMP Battalion with 6 Cat1 Inf, 3 Cat1 Inf/ATGM riding in 9 BMP1's
West German forces: Panzers & Aufklarungs Battalions 1979 - rated Good (expensive, accurate, 6" coherency, 4+ for QCs)
HQ - Recon 3 x Luchs
1 x Gepard
Panzer Ko of 3 x Leopard 1A3
Panzer Ko of 3 x Leopard 1A3
Panzer Ko of 3 x Leopard 1A3

Panzergrenadier Ko of 3 Inf, 3 Marder 1w/Milan

The table, built by Kieran of http://6mm.wargaming.info/index.htm fame, its gorgeous!

 The Bad Guys:
PzGren Ko
PzGren Ko (not fielded)
Angry Germans
1st Ko of Leopard 1A3's
The gorgeous Gepard

Aufklarung platoons
Heavy Aufklarung
The Good Guys:

Scary T-80B, were going to play as T-64A's
Gas station, prized by advancing formations for chips and Coke.

Divisional Artillery, MRLs are standing in for Uragan

My Left Fist - Soviet Reserve T-64A Battalion, such high hopes...

My Right Fist backing up Reg SPAA, did some good, too late.

This WG position was the tough nut which soaked a ton of fire and burnt everything around it

Flank attack to the rear of a T-64A Btn...not looking good!
All fired, no kills...silence falls briefly...

In brief the Soviets waited for their deaths with uplifting stoic socialist songs and affirmative remarks on communal farming. The Germans provided them with brutal feedback on their efficiency and timeliness and the Soviets were routed off the board. About 4 hrs of gametime, 3 turns of play and a ton of fun. In the 3rd turn I got 10 Fire units worth of 122mm & 152mm fire for zero real effect...much amusedment.
Final result was 1 VP to Scott for cleaning the clocks of the r-hand T-64A Btn, while the survivor from a shattered Leopard Ko made it's QC and stuck around.
